Home National Radiation Emergency Medical Center Greetings
After the Fukushima accident in 2011, pulic concerns about radiation have soared dramatically. In order to relieve this anxiety,
it is important that we provide accurate infomation on radiation effects on human health, and develop medical capability to respond properly to radiation accidents.
As there are 25 nuclear power plants in operation, as well as the medical industrial use of radioisotope increases and the North
Korea's nuclear threat is ongoing, the radioactivity risks in Korea have ever risen.
Under the 'Act on Measures for the Protection of Nuclear Facilities, etc. and prevention of radiation disasters'.the National Radiation Emergency Medical Center has operated the nationwide REM network by designating 23radiation emergency medical institutions.
For the best medical response to radiation emergency, NREMC has built infrastructure and trained skilled manpower againest radiologicaldisaster. We have also operated 24-hour hotline to provide consultation for radiation-exposed patients, conducted dose assessments, and implemented R&D projects studying radiation injury therapeuitics and low-dose radiation risks.
As the control tower of medical response to radiation emergency, NREMC will make its utmost efforts to minimize the number of casualties and losses caused by radiation, thereby serving not only the citizens but the nation.
